Editorial Review:
Intended for the introductory-level college course, this text aims to give the student a broad overview of environmental geology. It looks both at how the earth developed into its present condition and where matters seem to be moving for the future. It is hoped that this knowledge will provide the student with a useful foundation for discussing and evaluating specific environmental issues, as well as for developing ideas about how the problems should be solved. - Living Geology boxed readings (one per chapter) relate chapter material to situations, problems or applications that might be encountered in everyday life. - NetNotes, at the end of each chapter, have been significantly updated. These are modest collections of Internet sites that provide students with another avenue for further exploration and research. - Access to PowerWeb Geology, a course-specific website developed with the help of instructors teaching the course to provide instructors and students with curriculum-based materials, updated weekly assessments, informative and timely world news, refereed web links and much more. not the right book 2008-10-05 this company sent me the wrong book, but realized it before i received the wrong one, so they corrected it and gave me a discount. the whole experience was still not good, but they made it right.
Good Content, but Still Horribly Over-priced 2008-06-03 Generally, I found this book to be clear and well-written. The illustrations are great and the topics covered are all very interesting. The problem with the book is that the physical craftmanship is terrible. For a book sold at this price (170.00 new), I would expect to be purchasing a durable, well-bound, hardcover book. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the inside cover states it is a hardcover and Amazon lists the ISBN as a hardcover, it is in fact, a paperback. What's more, it is a poorly constructed paperback. McGraw-Hill, is the publisher, and I feel they should be ashamed to distribute such a product - particularly at such an absurd price. I understand that publishers need to charge more for college textbooks in order to make a reasonable profit, but $170.00 for this book is almost criminal.
Very Nice People 2005-07-07 There were a few gliches, but they were taken care of beyond my expectations
Look for it in a used bookstore 1999-07-29 The book explains very basic environmental terms and concepts fairly well. The information is very clear and the wording concise. It does a good job of getting some general themes across. However, I would definitely not pay full price for a book such as this. Look for it in a used book store.
