Best Available Rockhounding Book for WA 2008-01-13 Although not perfect, this is the best available rockhounding book for Washington sites. There isn't a Falcon Guide for WA and the Gem Trails book is nearly worthless. Jackson's books are good but out of print and, at this point, out of date.
more field notes than a guide 2005-07-21 As a prior resident of Washington, I bought this book while visiting in hopes of finding some agate, as a nostalgic reminder of my stay. I visited three locations presented in this guide, carefully following maps and directions, but to no sucess. Perhaps it's all due to some lack of direction or rock-spotting skills on my part, but I found the directions rather vague and the site geology did not appear to fit the rocks the author described; I found no trace of agate at any site. Mind you, I have some experience in geology and finding agate. But, after fruitless hours of searching, I can only conclude this book is more useful as an excuse to explore the backroads of Washington than actually find agate or other gemstones.
