Compact, beautiful, and useful 2008-07-20
This book is beautifully illustrated in full color. The illustrations really make this book a joy to read and use. The types of rocks are described for identification, explanations are given for their formation, and a section tells which beaches to find them. I ordered a similar book that covered the entire Lake Superior shore but it was not nearly as concise and easy on the eyes. The only thing more I could hope for from this book is that it covered more shoreline. It gives me motivation to go rock hunting the next time I'm up in this part of the country. Highly recommended if you are looking for a guide like this.
Beach Stones of Lake Superior 2008-03-27 Another small guide to collecting stones along the beaches of Superior. This little guide covers only the North Shore from Duluth, Minnesota to the borderline. No photos, but very nicely done color drawings of stones. It contains neat little maps of collecting areas, and detailed descriptions of what the beaches contain, and what to look for. Take this guide with you on your trips to the North shore beaches.
Perfect Vacation Book 2008-02-20 Ideal book to bring along on your trip to a rocky beach. Easy to carry, enough information, not too daunting, helpful illustrations.
Great starter book 2008-01-10 This is a solid little book for anyone planning a trip to Lake Superior's north shore. I picked this book up for a June, 2007 jaunt up near Duluth and ended up using the maps and descriptions quite a bit. The authors manage to communicate their energy and enthusiasm, and the drawings are excellent. There is a nice whimsical feel to the book, too. The authors list man-made junk, such as rounded glass and aluminum blobs, so it's clear that they have been out on those shores and done their share of walking, head down, looking for agates. All in all, a great book, even if it feels at first blush like it was designed for kids.
