also known as geoscience, is an all embracing term for the sciences related to our planet earth. It uses physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology to build a quantitative understanding of the principal areas of Geology, Oceonography, Atmospheric Science and Glaciology.
Earth Science uses data acquisition and logging extensively to measure seismic movements, composition of soil, tides, currents, meteorological events, climatic changes and more.
The sensors used varies greatly on the application. It can range from strain gauges to measure the deformation of geological movements, GPS receivers to measure crustal movements under the ice sheet and sonic wind sensor to measure wind speed.

Loggers used in China's flood prone region.
Australian-based company dataTaker Pty Ltd supplied 6500
hydrological data loggers to China. In October 2000 ,dataTaker will
supply an additional 1000 units, which will be employed to monitor rainfall and
river heights throughout flood prone areas of China. |
| King’s College London aids Rainforest Research in Colombia. They used loggers to investigate the
Hydrology, Ecology and regional Biodiversity of the area – with the aim of assessing the
potential impact of deforestation. |
